SCCM Based Windows 10 Installs -- What’s Different?

Accessing Network Drives

In order for your drives to map properly, you will need to ensure your Novell and CWL passwords are synchronized. To change your Novell password please do the following:

  • Log into the helpdesk system with your Novell account (https://helpdesk.ok.ubc.ca/) and navigate to the Tools section located on the left side. Click change password and change your current password to match your CWL. Or you can click the change password link half way down the center on the left.
  • Please note you can do this from any machine including your cell phone’s web browser.

I get prompted for Administrators credentials when trying to perform a task

Sometimes when you try and do a particular task on your machine (most likely a software installation) your machine will ask you for administrative credentials. By default, users are no longer administrators of machines on SCCM templated machines; however, we understand the need will arise when you will need elevated access. We added a program called Make Me Admin on all SCCM templated machines that allow users to elevate their permissions for 10 minutes at a time. This will allow you to install software and/or perform administrative tasks. To access this, navigate to your start menu (the windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen) and look for Make Me Admin. Once it loads it will give you the ability to grant yourself administrative rights. If you have to do this on a consistent basis, please engage with IT and we can discuss possible remedies.

Configuring Outlook and Skype for Business

With our new procedures Outlook and Skype will automatically configure on your machine. Just click the desired application from your start menu to get started.

How do I install campus licensed software?

Campus licensed software can be installed via our self service portal called Software Center. You can access this through the start menu under the Microsoft Systems Center folder. Software can be installed by clicking on the desired application and pressing install.
